Designing a Sensitive Marketing Strategy for Memorial Reefs

Introducing a new way to remember, through design and nature.

Resting Reef creates memorial reef structures incorporating cremated ashes. We joined as a fractional marketing director to help communicate an unfamiliar service with care, connecting its environmental ambitions with the personal and cultural meaning of remembrance.

FINDING THE LANGUAGE

Through a founder workshop and bespoke marketing plan, we developed a narrative connecting remembrance, design, and marine restoration. This informed communications, press materials, social media content, and concepts for future memorial experiences.

BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS ON THE GROUND

From five months in London to one month in Bali, we spoke in Bahasa to coordinate with local collaborators, organized site visits and produced intimate workshops, and developed hospitality partnership opportunities. Cultural coordination and photoshoot production helped translate the project into stories and experiences grounded in its setting.

A 12-month monitoring report saw reef sites showed clear ecological recovery with 8x higher benthic biodiversity than before.

RESULTS

Resting Reef gained a clearer communications direction, new local relationships, and storytelling assets to support conversations with prospective customers and partners.
