Rory Noble-Turner
Rory is an architectural and interior designer based in London. Having practiced as a designer in both the UK and the US, he has had the opportunity of working at a variety of high-end design ateliers from Zaha Hadid Architects and Ron Arad Studio in London to Morphosis Architects and Mark Foster Gage in New York. His experience as both a maker and designer have instilled in him a keen interest in honing materiality and atmosphere within his work which ranges from product design through interior decoration to architecture. Making the most of contemporary digital tools and fabrications techniques, his work dances between sculpture, architecture and digital design.

Inspired by ancient ruins and primitive sculptural forms, the chess set attempts to create an aesthetic that is both sleek and contemporary without losing the distinct figuration of original chess piece design. Using a careful process of digital sculpting, the pieces are carved out in virtual space before being 3D printed using sustainable production processes with biodegradable filament.

Cast from a mixture of coloured cements the chess set comes in 3 colour variations mimicking the earthy tones of the natural environment. The pieces themselves come in two types - traditional and abstract - with the bronze hats fused to the melting bodies denoting their rank.
